1984 Visit to Brother Printer Japan for Technical Training – Nagoya, Japan
Arriving in Nagoya during the winter, I embarked on a journey of technical training at Brother Printer Japan.
The stark contrast in climate was immediately evident as I was allocated a dormitory room with no heating.
Battling the chilly conditions, daily routines included a brisk walk to a nearby shed for an icy cold bath.
Thankfully, an electric heating blanket on my bed became a cherished companion for warmth during those cold nights.
One of the most striking cultural experiences was during factory lunch breaks, where I observed all production staff, including the women, carrying trays for their meals and returning them after eating for washing—a stark departure from the “eat and leave” culture I was accustomed to in Singapore.
This experience not only deepened my technical knowledge but also broadened my cultural understanding, leaving an indelible mark on my professional and personal growth.
