2004 – Visit to The Twelve Apostles, along the Great Ocean Road – Australia
Situated in the Port Campbell National Park, these dramatic limestone stacks are a major tourist attraction found roughly a 4.5-hour drive from Melbourne.
Formation: They were created over millions of years by ocean erosion wearing away softer limestone cliffs, with the current stacks exposed in just the last few thousand years.
Structure: Despite the name, there are only seven original rock stacks remaining.
Geological Age: Studies suggest the oldest limestone layers are roughly 14 million years old, while the stacks themselves formed relatively recently.
