S-100 Bus North Star Horizon Computer Project

Responded to an advertisement for a part-time opportunity maintaining computer systems.

The employer owned an Italian marble factory in Singapore and lived with his Hong Kong wife and three daughters in a private apartment on the 35th floor of International Plaza.

He had multiple S-100 bus-based computer systems and needed them interconnected for file transfer using RS-232 serial communication.

I studied the provided technical manuals and sourced spare parts from Sim Lim Tower to build the necessary RS-232 cables.

Through this project, I gained hands-on experience with RS-232 interfaces—including configuring cross-linked connections for proper data transmission and reception—and developed a strong working knowledge of the CP/M operating system.
